Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas misled Congress when he testified under oath in May that the Disinformation Governance Board (DGB) “had not yet begun its work,” two Republican senators claim. In fact—according to  documents  obtained from a DHS whistleblower by Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.)—planning, decision-making, and concrete work by senior DHS officials, including Mayorkas, had begun at least as early as September 2021. Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd produced no reports on his fatal shooting of  Ashli Babbitt  and refused to give an official statement to investigators, but he agreed to a “voluntary debriefing” in which he stated if the “mob of rioters” outside the Speaker’s Lobby at the Capitol gained entry, “it wasn’t going to go well.” Those details emerged on June 7 from more than 100 pages of records released by Judicial Watch from its 2021 Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ). Records were released on the  Judicial Watch  website. But the Turks and Caicos Islands’ (TCI) Minister of Immigration and Border Services, Arlington Musgrove, has in turn described the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) as “reckless” and “misguided.” Last month the seven Sri Lankans were awarded $532,500 by the supreme court on the Turks and Caicos Islands for false imprisonment after they were held at an immigration detention centre for 11 months. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat, who is opposed to the bill, said he took no action on Senate Bill 44 because it “was going to become law whether or not I signed it or vetoed it” because of the current make up of the Louisiana State Legislature. Under Louisiana law, any bill that passes the state’s House and Senate automatically becomes law by the end of the legislative session if the governor takes no action. “It became very clear to me after two years, seeing the votes on both sides, and in the conversations that I had with a number of legislators, that that bill was going to become law regardless of what I did,” Edwards told reporters on Monday.
