Former wife of Screwfix millionaire loses money battle in UK High Court



The ex-wife of a millionaire businessman whose family founded the Screwfix chain lost a High Court battle over company shares, but was awarded more than £1 million ($1.3 million) to cover the cost of raising their children.

James Goddard-Watts and his ex-wife Julia, who divorced in 2010, have been embroiled in a long-running financial feud.

The latest round of that fight has now been adjudicated by a judge.

Earlier this year, Sir Jonathan Cohen heard arguments in the Family Division of the High Court in London.

Judges were told that Mr and Ms Goddard-Watts, both in their 50s, had reached an agreement to end their 13-year marriage in 2010.

Mr Goddard-Watts had agreed to give his ex-wife a house worth £3.25 million and a lump sum of £4 million.

She later complained that he had not disclosed the full extent of his wealth.

A judge then ruled that Mr Goddard-Watts had "made a false presentation" when signing the 2010 agreement, and he was ordered to pay his ex-wife more than £6 million ($7.8 million) in 2016.

The Taliban orders all Afghan women to cover their faces in public

Bush's invasion of Afghanistan to overthrow the Taliban - which included officials arguing for the need (among other reasons offered) to secure women's rights in Central Asia - we've now come full circle... According to the Associated Press, "Afghanistan's Taliban leadership orders all Afghan women to wear the all-covering burqa in public," citing a new Saturday ruling. This means that women will no longer be able to show their faces in public. The burqa, which is now required, goes far beyond the hijab, which is typical in Sunni Islam and merely covers the hair; instead, the burqa prevents any skin, including that on the face, from being exposed at all. Setback for Bill Gates: Sweden cancels his controversial project to dim the Sun

The Swedish Space Corporation (SSC) announced that the flight to test the possibility of dimming the sun’s rays’ incidence on the Earth, planned for June, would not go ahead. “The scientific community is divided regarding geoengineering, including any related technology tests such as the planned technical balloon test flight from Esrange this summer,” the SSC said in a statement, Asia Pacific Daily  reported  April 2.  Bill Gates has funded the controversial project proposed this time by Harvard University as the Controlled Stratospheric Perturbation Experiment, or SCoPEx, which attempts to disperse a calcium carbonate (chalk) cloud into the atmosphere from a high-altitude balloon to study its effects on sunlight reaching Earth.
