JCF confirms that a cop was hurt in the shootout that killed St. Ann's most wanted man and another man.

  The police have confirmed that one of their officers was injured in a shootout with criminal elements on Saturday in St Ann. According to a release from the Constabulary Communications Network (CCU), the Jamaica Constabulary Force's communications arm, the policeman was injured during the gun battle that claimed the life of one of St Ann's most wanted. A status update on the officer's condition is expected soon. According to reports, shortly before 4 p.m. on Saturday, members of the Counter Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC) led authorities to a section of the North-South Highway, where they intercepted a white Toyota Crown motorcar. When the cops approached, the men in the car immediately began firing at them, resulting in a gunfight, according to the CCU. "In the end, we believe two of the men were shot and injured." Mandatory mask wearing reinstated in schools

  KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — In light of an increase in confirmed and suspected COVID-19 cases in institutions, the Ministry of Education and Youth has called for mandatory mask use in schools. The Ministry also stated in a bulletin issued on Thursday that if a student or staff member arrives at school without a mask, they should not be denied entry. "Students and staff who do not wear masks should not be denied entry to school." Administrators are instead being asked to assist these individuals with a mask to facilitate the teaching and learning process. Administrators are also reminded to "re-sensitize all key stakeholders about the protocols to be observed, including frequent hand washing and temperature checks," according to the Ministry. A newborn baby discovered dead in downtown Kingston

  KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — On Monday morning, the body of a newborn boy was discovered in a handbag on Temple Lane in downtown Kingston. According to OBSERVER ONLINE, the body was discovered after passers-by noticed dogs biting the bag and alerted the police. Upon their arrival, the police found the dead baby wrapped in a newspaper inside the bag. Investigators suspect that the body was dumped there on Sunday, which was Mother’s Day. Putin says Russia is defending the "Motherland" as the Ukraine conflict rages.

  Haiti's neighbours continue to step up repatriation efforts, with an estimated 7,300 Haitians returned in April, according to GARR, the Support Group for Repatriated and Refugees. According to GARR, the Dominican Republic returns are a mix of repatriations, deportations, and spontaneous returns.  According to the GARR, a total of 3,158 repatriated, 896 deported, and 3,246 spontaneous returns from the Dominican Republic have been identified at official border points.
